Principles of Yara’s Sustainable Procurement

Our contractors and service providers must be compliant with all applicable laws as well as the principles in Yara’s sustainable procurement policy and code of conduct for business partners.

Yara’s Procurement Operations

Yara Suomi Siilinjärvi plants procure services and products from approximately 500 different suppliers, both locally and globally. We also purchase raw materials and chemicals, as well as energy and fuels. In addition, we procure significant amounts of process equipment, spare parts and services required for our maintenance and production operations.

Our suppliers are required to comply with applicable laws and regulations, as well as Yara’s Code of Conduct for Business Partners. The purpose of this ethical guideline is to ensure that the supplier company fulfills all statutory obligations related to responsible business conduct and meets Yara’s standards.

All supplier agreements with Yara should also be based on Yara’s General Terms and Conditions of Purchase or other terms predefined by Yara. More information on the purchasing terms can be found via the following link: Supplier requirements, Yara General Terms and Conditions of Purchase (GTC).

Yara’s Sustainable Procurement Policy

Yara’s Sustainable Procurement Policy describes Yara’s views on sustainability and our expectations of suppliers. The primary objective of these principles is to improve the transparency and sustainability of our value chain through cooperation, information sharing, and continuous mutual improvement.

Yara’s Sustainable Procurement Policy defines partially, for example, the principles for tendering processes, supplier selection criteria, and the operating principles related to supplier management during the contract period. We audit our suppliers from the perspectives of safety, quality, ethics, and sustainability.

The key themes of our responsible procurement policy include climate change, energy, circular economy, water management, health and safety, human rights and working conditions, business ethics, diversity, equity and inclusion, and sustainable supply chains.

We monitor supplier-specific sustainability performance through EcoVadis sustainability assessments, which cover approximately 80% of the total value of our procurements.
